A note from our DOF and U10 Manager Robbie Faye
On Friday morning a message I sent via Whatsapp to parents of our U10s team regarding team grading and selection was subsequently shared on social media. This message set out our plans for the team as we approach a new season.
We have an open and honest policy, and try to keep all the parents as informed as possible. After a conversation with the other coaches, it was decided that it would be best to let parents know now, rather than in July what the plan was for next season. We have a large group and within that group there is a gap developing between players. The message sent out was a heads up to parents to let them know what was going to happen in July.
All clubs regrade players in the small sided section on a season-by-season basis to ensure that the players are playing at a level they are comfortable with, where their confidence is not affected, and that still challenges them. What we have set out to do is no different. We have given the parents a heads up, and the rationale behind it.
The players who are not selected will drop down a level and play at a level they are more suited to at this stage of their development. This is normal practice when regrading players. The club is a community based club that tries to provide football for all levels. This also includes those kids who have aspirations of going onto bigger and better things, and those who just want a kick around with their friends.
I appreciate that my comments may have been open to misinterpretation and communicated in a way that may not reflect the ethos of our club but at no time did I intend to cause upset or distress to any member of our team or their parents.
