MATCH REPORTS

Girls Under 8 V Granada FC
The girls played their first ever match together as  a team away to Granada FC yesterday. No sign of any nerves on show as the girls put in a great display of tackling, positional sense and goals galore. Most importantly they had a lot of fun and are looking forward to the season ahead. U14P Leixlip 1 Belvedere 5
Had best chance of the first 15 mins when Dan Bradley rounded the keeper but defender slid to make a great block and clear off line. We then went 1 nil down after 20 mins from our own corner. They hit a long hopeful clearance that we don’t deal with and the striker runs on to it and rounds the keeper. We were well in the game and after 2 mins of second half Dan Bradley pounced on a short back pass to finish. We had them totally rattled and for the next 10 mins only us in it but at this level small margins matter, we won the ball high and Senan Linnane hit a great shot from 20 yards which crashed off the bar and the rebound just fall awkwardly for our other striker who hits it wide. 2 mins after they got their second after we failed to pressure out wide and then 2 other good strikes from outside the box shortly after finished us as the heads were gone and they had drawn us into a scrap. Missing 1 or 2 and you need your full squad to compete each week but things to work on as no easy games with Crumlin & Shels up in next matches.

Leixlip U13 A1 Sporting Greystones 2 - 4 Leixlip Utd.
First away fixture of the season and another great win for the Leixlip boys. This match was played under very difficult conditions, the unrelenting rain made the surface very difficult to play football. It was the leixlip lads who started the stronger. Three 1st half goals from Eoghan Ruane,Tom Dolan and Glenn Hannon put the away team in pole position for the win.
It was however the home team who scored the next 2 goals resulting in some anxious moments for Leixlip. The Leixlip lads regrouped and with 10 minutes to go scored the final goal of the game with Conor Tighe converting from the edge of the box.
Great performance from a great bunch of lads. Well done all!!

16s Major Leixlip 2-2 Larkview
Great point versus a team who comfortably beat us last year, came from behind twice with a 30-yard rocket from Daire Heavey early in the 2nd half. Then after going 2-1 down with 5 to play, we made some tough decisions to take a couple of lads off and go all out to get a goal. That paid off as 2 minutes later Lewis played a great ball towards the back post to Craig Fagan who smashed home on the volley, and the lads celebrated that goal like a win.
4 points from the opening 2 games against sides who finished ahead of us last year, where we wouldn't have picked up any points, so a lot of positives to carry forward.

U14 Beech Park 2 - 5 Leixlip
After a long wait we finally got our season underway with a good win against our neighbours in Lucan. Slow start saw us concede an early goal but we bounced straight back with a great run by Lily Diffney and finished into the corner of the net. Niamh Looney got the second after some great work down the right hand side and struck it well past the keeper. Our midfield pairing of Olivia Harrington (2) and Laoise Boyce (1) got the next 3 with some good shots from outside the box. We conceded late on after a long ball which we didn't deal with but it's something for us to work on going forward. All in all a cracking start to the season and our new signings Annabelle Carty and Lily Diffney have fitted like a glove and are great additions to the squad.

U14A Leixlip 3-1 Verona
Return fixture after last week's win. Another hard fought win by the boys in terrible conditions. Slow start we took the lead in the first half with a corner from Zach Fitzpatrick and Jack Reilly made sure on the near post. In a crucial moment Dan O’Reilly made a point blank save when they were in behind us.
Verona came out strong again in the 2nd half however we hit them on the break when Stevie Owens beat his opponent & provided a cross for Aidan McConville's lovely finish at the far post. A defensive mishap at the back let in Verona to give the hope but with 5 minutes remaining a free kick by Calum Dodd allowed Senan Moriarty to place a top corner shot that came back to drop on the goal line where Luke Schuster finished to ensure maximum points

SFAI Cup 15M team Leixlip Utd 5 Cherry Orchard 0.
A great performance against the same league opposition. We went in front when Jesse Cabral scored with a brilliant header from Aaron McDonagh's corner. Aaron himself then added the second himself with a strike from 25 yards. We continued to control the game and Ryan Naughton scored twice to put the game beyond the visitors. Aaron McDonagh then finished the scoring to wrap up a comprehensive victory. We move on to play Lusk Utd in the second round.
