Match Reports
U17B Dalkey 0-1 Leixlip
Proverbial 6 pointer today, it was must win for us to take some control of the title chase, was a bruising ding done battle between 2 very good sides, we had some chances but couldn't convert and it was 0-0 at halftime, second half was up and down with both teams slugging it out, with 15 minutes to go up popped Sam Tenali with an important finish to give us the lead, a very important 3 points at the start of a big week for us, games on Tuesday, Thursday and next Sunday will put a real shape on this season for us.
U12 Girl D1 Cup Semi Final Portmarnock 3 - 2 Leixlip AET
A tough one today, 2 up thanks to Niamh looney and Ciara Briody in quick succession minutes into the second half and we seemed to find our stride. Portmarnock took advantage of a mistake at the back, bounced around our keeper and found the back of the net. Minutes later the ref handed out a yellow card for a sloppy tackle in the box. The resulting penalty found the net and it finished ordinary time 2-2. Portmarnock scored again in the first half of extra time. We battled well towards the end but couldn't claw it back. Disappointment all around the park at the end of extra time. A super game and lots to learn from this one.
MGL u17 Leixlip 1 Lakelands 4
Dress rehearsal for next week's cup final didn't go brilliantly today - but the game was closer than the result. We conceded a few goals that were potentially avoidable, and we hit the post and missed a few half chances - hopefully getting it out of our system for next week! Also the really heavy rain didn't help, tough conditions to play in.
Our goal came from Isabelle Braescu who controlled the ball well in the box and rifled it in from a narrow angle to make it 1-3 and we as we pressed to make it interesting late on, we got caught out to finish 1-4.
Sun 15.2 Toft cup Leixlip 0 - 4 Belvedere
Despite losing 4 nil in the cup quarter final, there were lots of positives. We were missing 3 key players through injury but the lads played some lovely football at times. Charlie McCarthy and Oscar Corcoran were excellent in midfield while Tadhg O'Meara had a great game at centre half. Fine margins on the day. Had we taken chances and closed Belvedere down a bit quicker it would have been a different game. Only 1 nil at half time but a few lapses in the second half cost us. 4 nil was harsh on the lads but they'll learn from it. Special mention to Fionn Egan who stepped up today to help us from the u14s.
U14B Castleknock FC 6 Leixlip Utd 7
If there is such a thing as a bogey team then it has to be Castleknock for us this season. Our one defeat to date was against them at home in the reverse fixture (itself a 4-5 scoreline) in week 5. This game was packed with moments. Let’s get the 13 goals out of the way…
1st Half
10m Castleknock
12m Aidan Doyle
20m Castleknock
21m Ryan Good
26m Ebe Flynn
27m Ebe Flynn
32m Castleknock
2nd half
3m Cameron McComish
14m Castleknock
14m Aiden Doyle
21m Adam Abidoye
23m Castleknock
33m Castleknock
Now layer in the challenge of several Leixlip Utd players also taking part in the big GAA Féile both before and after kick off! Fantastic commitment. Massive thanks to our parents for facilitating 👍Own goals, penalties, worldies, bookings, big tackles, some odd referee decisions, individual skills and mishaps, sprinkled with an opposition that crossed the line more than once… all contributed to a bizarre stew of a game. Stand in captain Darragh Linnane, a candidate himself for MOTM, along with Ryan, Adam, Oscar Butler, Cameron, Conor Jeffrey, Conor Quinn amongst others, selected Aiden Doyle for his excellent performance leading the front line. Special shout out must be given to Ebbe Flynn. Making his 1st appearance of the campaign, scored 2 goals within 2 mins after coming off the bench. What a contribution!
4 games to go… they are all cup finals!
U13D Beechwood 0 Leixlip 5
Another good result for the lads today in very warm conditions away. Everyone of them put in a great work rate and goals from Patrick Kelly (2), Lorcan Shiel, Ruvin Loka and Fearghal Moore gave us the 3 points with only a few games left before end of season.
Leixlip Ladies B team result Challenge Cup game Rush 2 - 3 Leixlip B
Tough game on the road to a team in division 2 leagues higher than B team. Great game of football by both sides today. We took an early lead. They got back into game by using the pitch hill to their strength of fast wingers. However we weren't done in first half and drew level again. Half time result 2-2. Second half we knew what their main play was and we kept them well out away from our goal and any clear chances. We took the upper hand in play and half way thru took a deserved lead.We had better chances of second half. No more goals in what was a great game and result for B team.
