Girls U12 Div1 Cup Quarter Finals
Leixlip 1 - 1 Mt Merrion AET
6/5 Pens
We witnessed a great game between two evenly matched sides who went toe to toe for an hour and twenty minutes today. An early goal from Ciara Briody who smashed one home on the back post after great work down the wing by Niamh Looney. Mt Merrion got one back in the first half and despite both teams best efforts neither team could find the back of the net in normal time or the added 20 minutes and onto the dreaded penalties. We were all level after 5 penalties each and then in sudden death our super keeper Jules Nunan made another great save to win us the tie. All the girls contributed really well today.
Not sure my nerves will stand up to it but into the semi's we go.......
MGL U15B: Dunboyne 0 Leixlip 1
Very satisfying to finish our league with both a 5th straight win & clean sheet. The girls had to work for this one as Dunboyne are strong at the back & have a very experienced keeper.
It looked like it would finish scoreless - Our defence dealt well with free kicks, long throws & good corners but although we forced good chances but couldn’t get the breakthrough.
In the last few minutes Isabelle Mullarkey collected our kick out & put Riona Kelly through on the left. Riona dribbled from the side of the pitch at half way to inside the box where she beat the keeper on her near post.
Tegan, Stewart, John & I hope the girls are rightly proud of themselves, earning promotion & only being beaten by one team (league winners Ashbourne) all season in the league.(Photo above).
U15 Div 2. Killegland 3-0 Leixlip
Our unbeaten run came to an end today against the league leaders. Lads battled hard but came up short against a good team. Our discipline deserted us in the second half and we gave away too many silly fouls. Plenty of positive performances but Killegland deserved the win.
Girls U12 Div 3/4 cup Cabinteely 2 Leixlip 1
Very unlucky to be on the wrong end of this result. By far the best performance from the girls this season.
Cabinteely went 1 up before Saoirse Brilly ran the length of the pitch to play a perfect cross for Saoirse Costelloe to equalise.
Cabinteely went ahead in the second half.
The girls kept pressing and created chances but just couldn’t get the equaliser.
Disappointing but we could not have asked more from them against a team unbeaten this season.
U13 Gerry Murphy cup 1/4 final Leixlip United(B) 1-4 Dalkey( A1)
The scoreline didn't reflect what was for the most part a very even game . A fantastic performance against the best team the lads have played this year. In what was a very even first half Dalkey took the lead on 20 minutes. Leixlip equalised almost straight away through Rian Fahey after great pressure from Ben Kineavey and Senan Moriarty. Leixlip United pushed for a 2nd but Dalkey held out to keep it even at half time. We started just as we ended the first half but got caught on the break for Dalkey's 2nd. Leixlip pushed for an equaliser and went close after a clever free from James McGee put Senan Moriarty through but the keeper was well placed. A controversial 3rd when the ball was kicked from our keeper's hands knocked the stuffing out of the lads and a late penalty flattened them.
All in all a great effort from the lads to get this far and were the last of their league left in the competition. Good experience and the league leaders to play Monday!!!
Monday's report below
Leixlip United 1-1 Lucan
A very tight game between two evenly matched teams. Lucan took the lead on 10 minutes after their player nipped in between our defenders. We responded well and after a bit of pressure we equalised when max farnan delivered a great corner for Conor Watkins to head home. The rest of the half both teams cancelled each other out.
2nd half was a bit more open with some great football from both teams and each probably felt they could have nicked it. Dan O'Reilly pulled off a fantastic save to prevent Lucan and Rian Fahey went close to getting a winner but a draw probably the fair result. 4 points won against the team sitting top of the table not a bad return
U13D Leixlip 5 Broadford 0
Good result for the lads this morning after a few weeks without a game. Went one up early in the first half after an unlucky OG from Broadford. Ruvin Loka then scored, so 2-0 at halftime.
We had most of the possession in the second half and goals from Patrick Kelly, Logan Finnegan and Fionn Kelly gave us the 3 points we hoped for.
17P Leixlip 3 Esker Celtic 2.
Another brilliant performance by the boys particularly after going two goals to opposition who had put us out of the cup earlier this season. Alex Akindrindoyo got one back before half time and after equalising in the second snatched the winner in the dying minutes of the game. A well deserved win which was enjoyed equally by both the players and management.
U15 Div 2. Leixlip 1-1 Phoenix.
Lads did really well against a very physical side who have always beaten us in the past. We took an early lead through a cracking long range free kick by James Gaynor. Phoenix started the second half very strongly and got an equaliser after some scrappy defending. Draw a fair result. Lads are unbeaten in the last 4 games ( won 2 and drawn 2) and are finishing the season strongly.
U12 Girl D1
Leixlip 0 - 1 Rathcoole
Tough night at the office for the girls. They came up against a very strong and determined Rathcoole side. We had plenty of chances but just couldn't get past rathcooles goalkeeper who had a great night in goal. We will be playing the return fixture next Wednesday night and the girls will know what to expect.
Last night was a step up in physicality but really good for the girls to see and feel the standard they need to be at.
Leixlip Ladies B team result from Monday.
Enniskerry 0-0 Leixlip
Always a tough place to go to Bog Meadow.
The Game generally ends in a draw between the two sides. First time it was scoreless.!!
First game back for the Ladies B team so very good performance and great to get match & minutes under the belt. We were unlucky not to grab the win at the end with a very good opportunity in front of goal.
Plenty of positives to take into season.
U12 P Leixlip Utd 1-1 St Mochtas.
On paper it was a game between two evenly matched teams and so it proved at the end. After a positive opening spell Mochtas took the upper hand. They were better in possession and showed more composure in key areas but our boys worked hard to contain them and we defended quite comfortably. Our resolute defending resulted in us giving away several corners and were lucky to only concede one goal from the in-swingers. We regrouped at half time and while we still lacked composure at times we played much better and forced an equaliser from a corner of our own when Liam Downey reacted first to side foot past the Mochtas keeper at his near post. The game was quite scrappy on a bobbly pitch and neither team were able to find the winner. Well done to all involved the boys ran their hearts out on a very hot evening. MOTM goes to our ever impressive RB Max Kelleher.
