SFAI National Trophy
Passage 3 - 0 Leixlip (Photo Above)
Disappointing end to what was a brilliant weekend for the girls, coaches and parents. We were beaten by a physically bigger and stronger side. We had a couple of chances denied by a really good goalie and our Cork opponents' experience showed. In a lovely gesture Beibhinn Silke who has been sidelined since 13th Jan with a torn ACL was given the captain's arm band and she rallied her team through the heartache at the final whistle.
57 for dinner last night, the best craic and memories made for all families and the club.
MGL U15B Leixlip 6 Lusk 0
Sophie Dalton scored her first from a scramble following a series of corners.
Her second came from a long kick out from Evie McNaughton, she shouldered the defender and hit a peach.
The third also started in their half when we won back front their throw. Lucy Morris drove deep & patiently gave the keeper no chance. After halftime Cara Moriarty went on a long run up the right & crossed for Sophie to bag her hat trick. Lucy Morris impressed all afternoon & cleverly set up Sophie to score a fantastic fourth.
Finally Grace Kelly worked it really well on the right & squared for Riona Kelly to score from outside the box.
Lusk threw everything at us for a goal but Evie McNaughton & the defence kept another clean sheet. (Photo below)

Portmarnock 0-2 Leixlip
After last week's disappointing result we got straight back to winning ways, we made this hard for ourselves with some wasteful finishing but we went in 1-0 up following a nice goal from Kane O'Brien. Portmarnock were a very direct team and our defence had to be at their best to keep them out, we huffed and puffed second half and finally put the game to bed with 3 minutes to go following some great work from Killian Egan and a square ball for Nathan O'Connell to finish off the move and seal the 3 points.
U15 A1/B Cup
Manortown 2-1 Leixlip
Great game of ball against the team 3rd in the division above but we were in this game all the way to the end, we conceded from a keepers long ball that caught us out and allowed their striker in for a goal, the heads didn't drop and we had chances to equalise before half-time. Second half we worked hard and tried to get an opening, we went 2 down following a deflected OG which was a bit of sickener, however we kept going and a long ranger from Sean Lennon made it interesting but we couldn't get an equaliser.
U15 Toft cup (Divs 1 and 2).
Leixlip 3 Belmont FC 1 (both Div 2)
Lads through to the quarter finals after a good win against a really physical Belmont side. Belmont took an early lead following a free kick on the edge of our box. Lads didn't panic and settled into the game. We got the equaliser through a Daire Heavey penalty midway through the first half. With 10 minutes left in the first half Jack Kelly put Leixlip 2-1 up with a determined finish in the box after a corner from Heavey. With the final kick of the half, Tadhg O'Meara scored with a bullet header from a corner by James Gaynor. Belmont continued to push to try and get back in the game but the lads defended resolutely to protect the lead. That's two wins and a draw (against the league leaders) in our last three games so the lads are in good form at the moment.
Hollywood Cup (U14s A1&B).
1 nil win against Castleknock this morning in the Hollywood Cup (U14s A1&B). Otto Brenan starred at centre back and picked up MOM. Cameron mccomish broke the deadlock after good build up play from Aiden Doyle, Darragh Linnane and Eoghan Lyons. Lots of substitutions throughout which kept our work rate up and eventually proved the difference. Great support as always from parents and injured players. Last 8 of this cup + run for the league to come over the next two months. Keep up the training and effort.
U13P Liam Brady Cup
Leixlip 0 St Francis 1
Great performance from the lads today with only 12 players and injuries and illness the lads stepped up and on another day the result goes the other way. We started with a new formation due to injuries and the lads took to it straight away and we were very solid at the back and had the better of the first half with not many clear cut chances either way. Second half was more of the same we had plenty of free kicks and corners we could not take advantage of and with 5 mins to go we did not clear and ball fell kindly to francis forward who finished low to the corner. After that we threw everything at them and had 2 super chances even a goal mouth scramble that would not fall to us, if we didn’t have bad luck we would have no luck at all these days but really proud of the attitude today and with that hopefully results will come.
U13 Gerry Murphy cup
Granada 1-4 leixlip United
Great win after a real scrap of a game, early pressure from granada had us on the back foot for a lot of the first half but the defence was disciplined and Conor Horan equal to anything that came his way. Slowly we started to gain control and scored when Senan Moriarty played in Luke Schuster who hit a lovely first time finish to go in 1 up at half time.
Second half was scrappy but we were always dangerous on the break and we got the second after great work from Rian Fahey who laid the ball back for Zach Fitzpatrick to rifle in a worldie from 20 yards. Granada pulled one back from a scramble after a free kick but rian fahey goy the third after a lovely ball from Senan Moriarty. Senan then got the goal his performance deserved when played in by Rian Fahey and we go on to the next round.
U13D
Leixlip 2 Beech Park 1
Great response from the lads after last week’s disappointment.
Went 1 up with a great finish to the top corner from Logan Finnegan. This followed by a cracking free kick from Patrick Kelly that gave their keeper no chance. Went in at half time 2 up. Second half Beech Park got one back but the lads put in a massive team effort from everyone to keep us ahead and get the 3 points.
Other NewsBen Iwegbu now playing for Drogheda came up against his former Leixlip United teammate Alfie Carolan who plays for Athlone as they faced off in the national league u14s. Keep up the great work lads!
