Our U8’s had a surprise spectator watching their game on Sunday. Robbie Keane whose son played for the opposition took time to chat to the lads after the game - fist bumps all round and words of encouragement for our Leixlip lads (Photo above).

U13 Gerry Murphy Cup: Leixlip Utd 2 Lucan Utd 1
The Cup Derby needed a good start and the lads didn’t disappoint. Great work down the right led to Rian Fahy squaring the ball for Senan Moriarty who scored from six yards at the back post. We kept the pressure on and swarmed their box with Brendan Carolan impressing and we forced a header OG.
Senan then had a volley chalked off for offside and we went into the break.
Predictably Lucan came out at blistering pace and cut through us early to peg one back. That set up a relentless 25 minutes with Conor Horan pulling off a great save & both sides going close.
Through to the next round along with local bragging rights on Snapchat. (Photo below)

U13D & D1 League Cup Wayside Celtic 3 Leixlip 2
Unfortunately on the wrong end of today’s result. Conceded after 30 seconds and chased the game from then. Got an equaliser early in the second half but Wayside went on and got 2 more.
Just one of those days when it didn’t happen for us.

14B Leixlip Utd 6 St Francis 2
New pitch, new kit and back to winning ways with 6 different goal scorers (Photo below).
This game really could not come quick enough for the boys after last week’s disappointing draw. We had the full squad on the sideline impatiently waiting for kick off including our 2 injured players, Ronan Hanly and Otto Brennan.

From the very 1st whistle Leixlip took the initiative, dominating possession with the vast majority of play in our opponents half. MOTM Ryan Good got us off to a flyer with a barnstorming run down the left, blitzing the St Francis FB before releasing a vicious shot past their helpless keeper. Further opportunities went-a -begging before Cameron McComish (hatrick hero in the reverse fixture) eventually found some space to lash home #2. This seemed to break St Francis’ will with 3 more goals following in quick succession courtesy of Aidan Doyle on a hot streak right now, a tasty Ronan Silke lob and a fine finish from Cian Becker after receiving the ball at pace. St Francis’ first big chance came towards the end of the half but was expertly dealt with by keeper Freddie Wasson. 5-0 at the break.

With the win essentially in the bag the 2nd half proved to be a much scrappier affair. St Francis, now playing for pride, got on the scoresheet through a penalty after 10 mins and surprisingly managed another 5 mins later. An unwelcome wobble, prompting Leixlip to step up their game once again and create a series of chances. However, there was to be only one further goal, Oscar Butler reacting fastest in a 6 yard box scramble.
Leixlip finished the game well on top with thoughts already moving to next Saturday’s fixture. Note this was the game played on our refurbished astro so a first win for our 14B side and the first goal scored by Ryan Good.

U13SFAI NATIONAL CUP RND OF 32
Leixlip 1 Ballinasloe 2
Very disappointing day for our lads we went 1 nil down after 10 minutes to a long range free that went in high into the net. After that there was not much in it in the first half, they were a very aggressive physical side and we could not get any clear cut chances but With 8 minutes to go Josh Kenny won the ball at the edge of their box and crashed a cracking shot off the bar that bounced out but Michael Cavanagh reacted quickest to slot home. After that only one side looked like winning but with a minute to go we failed to clear our lines guilty of trying to play football in the wrong area and turned the ball over and again another high shot was finished to the net, it was a sucker punch as we felt in extra time we would have had them but that’s football. Big thanks to all who were there to support the lads and for the refreshments afterwards albeit I think our lads definitely appreciated the pizza more than Ballinasloe!

Also the new Astro was great to play on and the lads really enjoyed it. Roll on next week.

U12 Boys P Crumlin Utd 0-3 Leixlip Utd.
Great response from the boys after last week's second half implosion. We started the game brightly and were in control for the first 15 mins. After failing to attack 1 ball in either box last weekend the lads attempted to win the first and second ball this time round which resulted in Jacob poking home the opener. We lost our way a little bit after scoring and stopped playing our game. Crumlin grew in confidence and began to create some half chances. A combination of good goalkeeping and defending kept us 1 up at halftime. The second half was a bit more open but we were comfortable and began to play our game again in patches. On 38mins Aidas clipped a cross to the back post which Luke D threw himself at to slot home our 2nd. While not playing our best we never really looked in trouble and got our 3rd with 10 minutes to go. Daniel played a long pass to Ben who spun and blasted home.

There were some excellent performances and while Daniel made some great saves and got another assist Liam just shaded MOTM this week.

U12 Girls SFAI National Trophy Leixlip 7 - 0 Kinnegad
The new astro got rave reviews from our Captain Lucy Gaynor today as she led her team to a 7 - 0 victory over Kinnegad Celtic and progressed to the last 32 of the National Trophy.
Goals from Niamh Looney, Cara Murphy, Emily Keegan, Cadhla Eviston, and 3 for Sophie Murphy in a game where we dominated our MGL opponents.
We welcome Ballyhaise of Cavan to Leixlip in the next round where we hope to keep on progressing.

MGL u17s League Cup Quarter Final Leixlip 7 Dunboyne 1
Fantastic win for the team today, really on their game with great performances from all 14 players involved. Emily Lynch opened the scoring with a great half volley from a looping ball in from Katie Allen. Jae Howard got 2 before half time, both excellent finishes, the second being a particularly spectacular volley having controlled the ball and lashing it over the keeper from the edge of the box. Second half was one way traffic with Isabelle Braescu powering in a shot from the right, Jae completing their hat trick and then Saoirse O'Hara showed great determination from the wing to score our 6th - Hanna Roze Anderson wrapped it up with a powerful finish inside the box late on.
On to the semi-finals we go!

U15 Div 2 Leixlip 2 Killegland 2
Delighted to get a draw today against a team that have only dropped points once this season. The lads started very slowly and were second to the ball on almost every occasion. Killegland scored twice in the first 10 minutes. The lads settled into the game but it was a very poor first half performance. Leixlip were much better in the second half. Oscar Corcoran scored with a neat finish from the edge of the box with 10 minutes to go. Corcoran scored again in the last five minutes with a close range effort after some excellent work on the right by Seba Callin. We've been very unlucky lately with some narrow losses so very nice to come away with a point today.

MGL U15B Ballybrack FC 3 Leixlip Utd 5
Late kick off but we were still asleep & found ourselves 2-0 down early on. Molly Crehan stepped up and changed the tone by scoring smartly from a well worked corner. Grace Kelly gave the team more belief by scoring soon after and we were on the front foot from there. Cara Moriarty gave us the lead a little before half time.

Ballybrack pulled one back when we didn’t close down a ball after defending a corner. In the next spell we attacked with a goal line scramble, their keeper saved a penalty and we forced an OG. We finished out the game by Lucy Morris finding space in the box and coolly slotting it away.

Congrats to our Under 7s who played their first ever game against Belvedere FC on Sunday morning in the club.

New Carpet on existing Astro
It was a special weekend at Leixlip United as our players got to play on the newly carpeted Astro. This is the first step in our pitch development and we would like to thank all our members for their patience during this period of development. Can we remind all our players and parents to wear the appropriate boots on the new Astro pitch (No blades)
