Great morning on Sunday for their first day back. Our U9 girls played brilliant football against Manortown. (Pic attached)
SFAI National Cup Round 4
Leixlip 3 Ardmore 2
We started slowly and failed to clear our lines on a couple of occasions and eventually it was one time too many and their striker found space in the box to cross low for another Ardmore forward to finish to the bottom corner from 10 yards out. We reacted well and created some good chances before a nice ball over the top was finished high into the net by Daniel Bradley. We had much the better of it from there and got a deserved second through Senan Linnane rounding the keeper after a scramble in the box. Second half we started very strong and got deserved 3rd goal from a nice flick from Oisin Stokes that landed in Daniel Bradley’s path which he finished low in to the corner with his left foot. We were well on top after that and should have added to our lead but as happens we made hard work of it by giving a needless free away with 5mins left about 25 yards out that the Ardmore striker finished really well to top corner. That set up a helter skelter last 5mins with balls being lashed everywhere but we saw it out.
Next round is home to Ballinasloe where we will need to be a lot better but with a few lads under the weather we are just happy to be through.
U13D
Leixlip 1 Tallaght Town 0
First league game back after the break. Great result for the lads. Both teams battled really hard and we had the better of the chances but went in 0-0 at halftime.
A goal midway through the second half from Logan Finnegan broke the deadlock and some great defending and goalkeeping from Dylan O’Donoghue kept Tallaght at bay.
On the balance a result we deserved.
U12 Girls Division 1
Knocklyon 1-1 Leixlip
Was the girls first match in Division 1 this morning out in knocklyon and we left 2 points behind us. We completely dominated play and chances and we were caught out with a late equaliser with their only chance of the game. Sophie Murphy put us a head with a good goal from a well taken corner. They will learn from today that they have to take their chances but over all a really good performance. Rolling subs was a challenge today in a tight game against their settled team.
U15 Div 2
Leixlip 1 Belvedere 2
Really proud of the lads today despite the loss. Missing our two usual centre halves, the lads battled superbly against a Belvedere side who are very good on the ball. In a feisty game, the lads went one nil up early in the second half through a well taken lob from Charlie McCarthy. Belvedere scored twice in 15 minutes to win the game but we had chances to equalise and the lads never gave up. With a little bit more composure on the ball at times, and crucially if we took our chances, we would have taken something from the game today. Super commitment though from start to finish, and a great game to watch.
U15 MGL Leixlip 1 Ashbourne 3.
Great performance from the girls today against the league leaders. Leixlip had lost heavily to this team earlier in the season but it shows their continued improvement as they were a little unlucky not to get a draw out of this. It was 2-1 for a long time and if a few little things had fallen differently the girls would have got a deserved point. However they have only lost twice in the league all season, both to the league leaders so hopefully more strong performances to come. Leixlip goal came from a Cara Moriarty worldy top corner special.
