Larry Kenny joined Leixlip United in 1969 soon after the club was formed. Larry played for the second team and when the club took its first steps into schoolboy  football in the early seventies, Larry ran the under 18 side. In the 1982/83 season Larry's under 18C team won their league to become Leixlip Utd's first schoolboy league winners. 

Back in 1975 Larry and Ray MaCauley started the first version of our current-day Mini Leagues. The Mini Leagues on the June Bank Holiday weekend is for many boys and girls the single most important event in their sporting calendar.

In 1990 Larry took over as supervisor of what is now our Community Employment Scheme. Larry's impact on improving our facilities was almost immediate when we were asked to host an under 16 international between Ireland and Scotland. The scheme was and continues to be of great benefit to our club and even after his retirement Larry became the Chairperson of the Sponsor Group for the scheme. 

Larry was always available to offer any advice on the upkeep of the pitches and the club in general. All major club events were graced and enhanced by his presence. The Christmas draw, presentations and especially his beloved Mini Leagues were all events he loved to be a part of. He loved handing out the medals and trophies on finals day of the Mini Leagues. Last year we had a very special moment when all the boys and girls chanted "Larry Larry!!" in appreciation for what he and Ray had started nearly fifty years ago. Larry visited the club nearly every Thursday for a chat with his protege Deirdre Scanlon, who succeeded Larry as CES supervisor. I was lucky enough to be around most of those days and it was great to get his opinion on the latest goings on in the club.

Larry dealt with his illness with both courage and dignity and his passing leaves a huge void in our club which will be well nigh impossible to fill.
