Thank you to all our members who paid their respects to our Club President, Larry Kenny (RIP) who passed away on Friday, by acknowledging one minutes silence at your matches this weekend. (Above our U15s team and below our U14s)
U12-2 Boys St Joseph’s 2-2 Leixlip Utd
The game was end to end with both teams having chances to score before Joey’s broke the deadlock midway through the first half. The boys responded superbly and we equalised almost immediately after Jacob’s long range shot found the bottom corner. Both teams kept pushing forward and Joey’s got their second goal before HT to lead at the break. We started the 2nd half slowly but grew into the game and got a great equaliser as the McAuley brothers linked up down the right side. Órán won the ball at right back and played it forward down the right channel. Senán won the 2nd ball burst through 3 tackles before slotting past the keeper to draw the scores level again. Both teams battled hard to find a winner but the defences stood firm, particularly our CB pairing of Ahmed and Joshua and goalkeeper Ben. Everyone one of the boys played their hearts out but MOTM goes to our captain today Ahmed who didn’t put a foot wrong all game.
U 15 Div 2 Leixlip 1 Beechwood 1
Lads first game after 4 weeks idle and the lack of match practice showed. Leixlip took the lead through a neat finish from Fionn Cronin. Cronin and James Gaynor both hit the crossbar in the second half, before Beechwood equalised. Draw probably a fair result. Minutes silence observed by both teams.
St Paul's Artane 2-4 Leixlip Utd
Strange game, we were excellent 1st half and we created lots of chances, some good saves, hit the woodwork twice and should have been out of sight at halftime, as it was we went in 2-0 with goals from Taidgh Flanagan and Nathan O'Connell. We started the second half flying, adding a 3rd from Nathan O'Connell within a minute of the kickoff following some tidy work from Adam Dagg and Aji Adegboye. Then we had a period where we lost our heads and shipped 2 soft goals and a routine win became a battle. Thankfully, we settled the game with 5 minutes remaining with a poachers goal from Killian Egan.
U14 Major Ballyoulster 2 - Leixlip 3
Kick off resulted in one long ball over top and Balyoulster centre forward through on goal ( offside possibly ) Fionn sensibly took him down and penalty was dispatched. Lads Immediately hit back when a great Jamie Flood ball out wide was converted by Aaron with a cross come shot. The second goal was a result of high press and control of possession , again a cross shot from Odhran snuck into the bottom corner. Lads dominated the rest of half and made it 3 just after break when pressure from Tom Byrne and a great ball from Aaron ended up with the defender heading into his own net.
Lads controlled most of the game but for the last ten minutes when they got done with another peno. However, the boys closed out the game with Jamie F. almost wrapping up the game in the last minute. All in all an excellent display and best team won on day
14B Hartstown Huntstown 4 Leixlip 5
Both teams play a similar style of football which allowed for a fair but physical contest. An uncharacteristic fast start (for us) saw Leixlip take a 2 goal lead via our super alert forwards Cameron McComish and Aiden Doyle. HH dug deep to respond with 2 of their own. This pattern continued for the rest of the game with excellent individual battles right across the pitch. Towards the end of the half Aiden found space to slide in his second only for HH to pounce again just before the whistle. 3-3 at the break.
Leixlip delighted their coaches and spectators alike racing to a 2 goal lead at the start of the second half. The first a beautiful volley courtesy of Oscar Butler followed by a fine finish from the prolific Adam Abidoye.
However, HH with a lot of vocal support themselves, just would not roll over and managed to pull one back via a penalty.
Both teams had further chances with arguably the better ones falling to Leixlip. A last minute HH free kick had the sideline on tenterhooks but our defence snuffed it out without any drama.
HH will take points off other teams in this league but Leixlip were just too good for them today.
U15B Leixlip Utd 0-0 Castleknock
A very rare 0-0 but this was a very entertaining game, 2 evenly matched teams going toe to toe, it was a real battle, both teams had chances but both defences stood strong. MoM Sean Lennon great shift from Sean in Centre Mid.
U13D Clondalkin 0 Leixlip 2
Great win for the lads away to the league leaders who hadn’t dropped a point before today. From the start the lads were up for it and outplayed them in every position. Top corner finish from Lorcan Shiel put us 1 up midway through the first half. A penalty from Jake McCormack put us 2 up at half time.
Second half the lads kept battling and created more chances than Clondalkin to come away with a deserved 3 points
3B Sporting greystones 0- 1 Leixlip United
First game in over a month and it was on a pig of a pitch . Very little football was able to be played. We started well and scored early through Senan Moriarty after some great work from Brendan Carolan. The rest of the half was a battle but we held firm. The 2nd half was more of the same until about ten minutes left a great save from Dan O'Reilly kept us in front. After this we put the pressure on and hit the bar and forced their keeper into a couple of good saves. A real battle today but great to come away with the win.
17P Greystones 1 Leixlip Utd 5.
A good win for the lads out in a very windy Greystones. We started fast and Alex Akindrintoyo scored in the first minute. Alex scored again after twenty minutes to put us two up in the second half. We totally controlled the second half and further goals from O'brien Akpaka, Callum Lynch and Jacob Lasica left us comfortable winners.
U12 Girls Leixlip 4 - 0 Terenure
The Leixlip girls were too strong for their South Dublin opponents this morning. We strolled to a 4 goal to nil victory with great performances all over the park. Goals by Niamh Looney, Cara Murphy, Laoise Boyce + a 30 yard free kick by Beibhinn Silke that landed in the top corner kept the sideline entertained!
MGL u17 PREMIER Clonee 1 - Leixlip Utd 3
After 8 years together, the team have reached the promised land of the MGL premier division, a well earned reward for great football this season (pity there's no trophy for regrading 📷)
Our first match at this level was against our close rivals Clonee United and we came away with an impressive win. We went ahead early with a great finish from Emily Lynch from just inside the box after a good move across the pitch, which led to Jae playing a through ball that Emily took on brilliantly. Clonee equalised with a good long range strike a few minutes later, but the girls weren't rattled and took the game to Clonee after that. Jae Howard broke into the box, the keeper parried and Katie Allen swept in the rebound for 2-1. And on the half hour after some good midfield play, Jae controlled the ball well and lashed a left footed shot into the bottom corner for 3-1.
The remaining hour was full of tension with chances to extend our lead and some fantastic defending keeping our 2 goal lead intact. A fully deserved victory, with all 16 players contributing really well, we're blest to have lots of strength in depth this year.
