Greystones Utd 2 : Leixlip Utd 2
A blustery trip to the coast turned out to be a tough assignment on their Astro. We attacked for the whole first half but went in level - we couldn’t control our attacks with the wind & rain. When we scored through Riona Kelly early in the second half I thought we’d kick on but the opposite happened. Greystones finally found their way through scoring from a 1v1 and then they took the lead soon after. As the rain really came down the girls responded well with Robyn McCaughey coming up from the back to convert from one of our many corners. We pushed for a winner but had to settle for the draw.
U17 MGL Cup Dunboyne 0 Leixlip 2
2pm kick-off so we played in the really heavy rain, but the girls showed great application in difficult conditions. The wind had a say in things and in the first half we were against it, we were still the better team but it was tough to get the ball under control and gave Dunboyne a chance to clear their lines more easily. In the second half we took advantage pressing Dunboyne high up the pitch and that paid off when Katie Allen won control of the ball and pinged a fantastic shot over the keeper into the far side of the goal. We kept up the hard work throughout and Isabelle Braescu got a deserved second goal bursting out of midfield and lofting the ball over their keeper from 25 yards out, super strike for 2-0. We kept at it and could have gone further ahead, some great crosses from Aliana Buisman - but we saw the game out well to go through to the next round.
U17B Leixlip 4-1 Greystones
Tough conditions but we were in control and should have had 2 or 3 before we gifted them the lead. We hit straight back with a lovely volley from Taidgh Flanagan and a finish from Rob Paoleti gave us a deserved lead. Second half was scrappy enough with the weather getting worse but 2 more, 1 from Nathan O'Connell and 1 from Kane O'Brien sealed the win.
U15B Leixlip 2-3 Portmarnock
If we had a million quid we couldn't buy a win at the moment. We dominated this game but just couldn't put it to bed. 2 sloppy penalties given away didn't help, goals from Dylan Hughes and Noah Dagg but it just wasn't enough.
U12 Girls SFAI Cup Leixlip Utd 7 - 1 Bohs
Lovely win for the girls this morning. All played well. Laoise Boyce scored 2 in her first match after a long lay off. Keelin Mooney & Ciara Briody got their first in red & white.
U15 Div 2. Leixlip 1 - 4 Mourne Celtic
We were punished today for a poor performance. We conceded early and despite playing good football in patches, we didn't play anywhere near our best. At 3 nil down in the second half, Daire Heavey converted a penalty to get one back, but Mourne then scored again to finish the game.
FAI under 17 Cup. Leicester Celtic 0. Leixlip Utd 6.
Very encouraging performance from the lads today. We went ahead in the first half with a strike from Romeo Omozee. In the second half two goals a piece from Jamie Byrne and Callum Lynch put the game to bed. A really nice finish from Keelan Jennings rounded off the scoring. A good win today but bigger tests to come.

Familiar (but unwelcome) territory for the boys, coaches and spectators. This is the 3rd week running we conceded goals early. 2 nil down after 20 mins. Leixlip were matching Celbridge across the pitch but were just not getting the 50-50 breaks. That finally changed shortly before HT when Eoghan Lyons curled in a beauty directly from a corner.
The second half continued much the same way with play flowing end to end. When Celbridge notched up their 3rd goal, not undeserved, we needed a big response to stop the game slipping away. That came in the form of Cameron McComish who tirelessly led the frontline all match. First winning the ball, then rounding a defender before firing a cracker from just outside the box high past the Celbridge keeper. Leixlip had the initiative and continued to push forward at every opportunity. Posts were hit and big tackles made but the biggest moment of the game fell to midfielder Eoghan Lyons. Picking the ball up at the halfway line, Eoghan jinked and powered his way through 4 Celbridge players before striking a wonderful effort into the top right hand corner to level the contest 3-3. The Celbridge goalie barely moved. There were half chances for both sides to win it but a draw was arguably a fair outcome. The return fixture will be one for the diaries.
U13D Portmarnock 2 Leixlip 4
Good result for the lads in a late KO
Started with a cracker from Lorcan Shiel from about 25 yards
3 goals from Logan Finnegan took us to hall time 4 up
We let them into it in the second half and they got 2 back
Could have been more comfortable but we’ll take the result.
U13 SFAI Cup Round 1 Leixlip 4 Lusk 1
Lusk are a well drilled team from a lower division that we showed respect to after our experience in the cup last year so we started on the front foot and created a few chances from the start, we were camped in their half and after 15 minutes a nice interchange of passes was finished inside the box by Oisin Stokes. Second came 5 minutes later with a cracking strike from 20 yards by Patrick Whelan. A defensive lapse at the start of the second half let Lusk score with a great finish to the top corner but we then pushed on and got a 3rd from Oisin Stokes with Stevie Owens adding a 4th in injury time. In truth we had 4 or 5 more guilt edged chances in the second half to kill the game but a good win.
U14 All Ireland Round 1, Leixlip United 10 Bluebell B 0
Complete mismatch but lads done what needed to be done as only our 3rd game of the season and our first win , 4 for Fiachra Martin and 6 assists from Tom Byrne so I’m reliably informed by ….Tom Byrne (on repeat on the drive home !)
