Leixlip United is enjoying an unprecedented moment in the spotlight. Andrew Omobamidele has been hitting the headlines for all the right reasons as his career is progressing at an unstoppable speed. We were delighted to see Andrew start for Norwich in the league against Arsenal and also in the League Cup against Liverpool.
Andrew also got his first international cap for Ireland when he came off the bench against Portugal on the 1st of September. He put in an amazing display in defence and held his own against household names like Ronaldo, Jota and Fernandes! Since then he has started every game for Ireland and has played some fantastic football - his performance against Serbia was particularly powerful.

Last Tuesday night, Andrew was joined by Leixlip native and friend, Nathan Collins who earned his first cap for Ireland against Qatar, winning an impressive 4 - 0. Their star quality was obvious at our Mini League in 2019 when Andrew and Nathan were on hand for our final day to present trophies and medals to our young winners, alongside Ireland legend, Wes Houlahan.
The excitement around these young players has been palatable in our community here in Leixlip, especially at Leixlip United. They are a huge inspiration to our younger members who see that hard work, commitment and a good dose of talent can lead to dreams coming true! We are extremely proud of these young men and we continue to wish them every success in their careers and we will continue to enjoy watching them as they flourish and advance in the world of international soccer.
