U11 Andreas Cup Final Leixlip United 2 Sheriff YC 1.
Leixlip United were crowned Andreas Cup champions after a spirited 2-1 comeback victory over Sheriff YC in a tense final.
Despite dominating much of the first half, Leixlip found themselves behind when Sheriff YC took the lead against the run of play. The goal came as a sucker punch to a Leixlip side that had created the better chances but failed to convert.
However, the second half saw a determined response. Just moments after the restart, Tadgh Fahy levelled the tie with a classic poacher’s finish inside the box, pouncing on a loose ball to slot home.
Buoyed by the equaliser, Leixlip kept up the pressure and were rewarded five minutes later. Awarded a free-kick at the edge of the area, Dylan Ó Murchú played a clever pass through the Sheriff defence to Josh Riordán, who rifled the ball into the net behind the goal to complete the turnaround.
Leixlip showed composure and grit in the closing stages, working tirelessly to shut down any Sheriff resurgence. Their disciplined defending and relentless work rate ensured the score remained unchanged, sealing a memorable victory and the Andreas Cup title.
A well-earned triumph for Leixlip United in a final full of drama and determination.
Well done to all the players and their coaches.
