U11 Boys Brendan Coyne Cup Semi Final Leixlip United 2 Glebe North 1.
We progress to the final after a brilliant battle against a very strong Glebe North side. We took the lead mid way through the first half when Ollie Dagg Moran cut inside and fed Dylan Tighe who calmly turned and slotted into the bottom corner. We started the second half strong and went 2-0 up when Bowe Kelly calmly passed to Dylan Tighe to score his second with a nice dinked finish when the goalkeeper went to ground. We managed most of the second half well but Glebe got 1 back with about 5 minutes to go. We held out with every player putting their body on the line to see the game through. A great achievement for the boys in their first little taste of competitive football and we have a trip to the AUL in May to look forward to now!
U15 Major Boys Leixlip United 4 Stella 0.
Our luck has been awful the last few weeks which has made the heads drop so this week the luck changed when straight from tip off Stella scored an own goal from a back pass and that settled the nerves. Second half against the wind we played all the football and a brilliant move led to a whipped cross from the right from Nathan Byrne was headed home back across the keeper by Daniel Bradley super goal. We were piling pressure on and Dany Pop got our 3rd from a great ball by Dan Lyons he beat two men and powered home from 15 yards. After that we were cruising and Max Farnan won it high and shot just wide and keeper made a worldy save from Senan Moriarty but our 4th came from pressure from Daniel Bradley on the keeper and Nathan Byrne had the task of passing into an open goal 4 nil. Clean sheet and a needed win and performance, shout out to Dan Lyons and Ronan Gorman who stepped up from U14 Premier squad and didn’t look out of place at all. Hopefully we can keep momentum with home game on Wednesday.
U15 Boys Paddy Fenlon Cup Semi Final Leixlip United 2 Wayside Celtic 3.
Honours even in the league earlier in the season (1 win a piece) both sides took a while to get into. We didn't take advantage of the wind and only created a half chance with speculative shot from Calum Dodd from 20 yards out first half. Wayside started to come into the game middle of first half dominating possession. Credit where it is due Dan O'Reilly in goal kept us in the tie first half with some brilliant saves. The first one a shot from Wayside which he tipped onto cross bar and we scrambled to get away from danger. The next save soon after with a corner which this time he tipped over cross bar. Start of second half Wayside took advantage of the wind and got the breakthrough 10 minutes in. A high ball over the top and lucky bounce over our keeper. 10 minutes later killer blow this time defence didn't clear our lines and Wayside scored within the box to make it 0-2. We got a life line soon after with first chance second half Liam O'Hagan cutting in on the right with point blank shot which their keeper parried and Stevie Owens was quickest to react to finish from 18 yards. Started to grow into more and Brendan Carolan won a penalty with 10 minutes remaining after excellent run up the pitch. Zach Fitzpatrick put it away to make the game all square. Alas Wayside scored the winner with 5 minutes remaining with brilliant free kick into top corner to make the final. Fair play for all the lads today and previous rounds to get this far in cup. Can't fault lack of effort and performance today by entire squad.
U17 Major Girls Malahide 2 Leixlip United 2.
Early morning kick off out at the coast and we started very slow. Malahide were much better than us and our keeper Danielle Tjurin kept us in it with some great saves. Maybe it was the half time jellies or just getting our breath but we were much better after the break. Pratibha Singh played just the kind of ball Faye Kelly likes to run on to and right away we were back in it. We continued to dominate throughout the half. Our defense shut them down consistently and we recycled well. We drew level when Emma Murphy found Faye who scored with a nice looping finish and we kept knocking on the door. More chances came for us but we also had to deal with a big goal mouth scramble so no complaints with a draw.
Big thank you to Rebecca McCarthy from the U16s who helped us out this morning and was excellent.
U16 Premier Boys Leixlip United 3 Mount Merrion 4.
Another disappointing result in a very winnable game. We conceded a soft opener when their striker forced his way past our defenders before finishing from close range. Tom Harrington made 3 or 4 good saves to keep us in the game. We eventually got a bit of a foothold but we missed chances to get back into it and just to compound matters we conceded again just before the break. The second half was a bit better and Adam Adiboye scored from a penalty to bring us back into the game. However while pushing forward we conceded two more goals. In fairness the kept battling on and Prince Heaven from another penalty and Aidan Doyle from close range brought us back into the game but we just ran out of time. The lads are still battling hard but we seem to be lacking in energy this last month. We go again on Tuesday and next Sunday we have a SFAI Cup semi final to look forward to.
