A well needed win today after moving into division 4 we’ve struggled against tough teams and looked a shell of our former selves but today the lads turned up and from the warm up we noticed it. We conceded the 1st goal but went on to dominate the rest of the game, 1st to every ball and never stopped working throughout. Our defense was solid, winning every ball and passing the ball really well, our finishing was excellent, we hit the post or bar on at least 4 occasions and despite the score their keeper made some excellent saves. Hopefully this is the turn we needed and we follow up next week with a similar performance. Their coach approached us after the match and said we were by far the best team they have played this season.
U13 Major Boys Leixlip United 4 Ardmore 4.
We started this game really well, but found ourselves 3 nil down after gifting Ardmore goals in a crazy 10 minute spell. 20 minutes in Alan Maly found Conal Boland in the box and he calmly slotted the ball in to the far corner. We continued to create chances. Ollie Newport hit the crossbar from free kick and then had one cleared off the line after a brilliant dribble. Then right on halftime Ardmore scored again after a mix up in our defence. The second half was one way traffic. With 10 minutes left it didn't look like we would get anything out of the game until Nicholas Gajovic cut in from the left and his high looping effort caught the keeper out and went in off the back post. A few minutes later Will Whelan found Conal Boland who pulled the ball back to the edge of the box, and Ollie Newport smashed the ball home. With just 2 minutes left Conal Boland raced clear of the Ardmore defence but was pushed wide by the keeper. He played the ball back across the goal where, in his efforts to get back the Ardmore keeper turned the ball into his own net. Great credit to the lads on the comeback.
U16 Girls League Cup QF Larkview 2 Leixlip United 3.
Huge congratulations to everyone today, not only on winning the game but also on an excellent performance. We've played Larkview three times this season and have gotten significantly better on each occasion. Having lost 4-0 in October, we've turned it right around with a great win today. We started super-fast today and Larkview couldn't live with our pace and quality of play. We were deservedly 2-0 up after 20 minutes but Larkview got a goal against the run of play to keep it competitive at half time. They started the second half very well and caused us some problems, scoring an equaliser with 20 mins left. We could have panicked but showed great resilience to turn the game around again and got ourselves back in front. Larkview threw everything at us for the last 10 minutes but we defended resolutely and were deserving winners in the end. I don't want to single out any players today as all 15 contributed to a great win, but it would be wrong not to mention Erin McGuinness who scored a great hattrick! On to the semi-final!
U15.1 Boys Howth Celtic 1 Leixlip United 4.
Howth had the better start and our defence had to deal with a lot of long balls but we got the first after 15 minutes Brendan Carolan broke through the defence and the Howth centre back brought him down in the box with a wild two footed lunge which saw him get a red card and us get a penalty which was slotted in by Aidan McConville to make it 1 nil. Howth played well even with the 10 men and there was not a lot in it for the rest of the half. 1 nil at the break. Howth equalised just after the break when we got caught napping at the back and their winger did well to get himself room on the edge of the box. Howth then hit the bar and zach fitzpatrick cleared off the line as we struggled to get hold of the game. Our 2nd goal came after good work from Krystian Ivanov to put Luke Schuster through who fired into the roof off the net. Howth then had a 2nd player sent off when their forward was called offside and he called the ref names. We nearly scored again when Krystian Ivanov hit the post with a great strike but we eventually got it with a wonderful free kick from Zach Fitzpatrick after Aidan Mcconville was brought down on the edge of the box. We scored again a few minutes later when Anil Rawat Geaghan's through ball fed Luke Schuster for his 2nd and our 4th goal. Hard fought win today.
U17 Major Girls Lakelands 0 Leixlip United 6.
Delighted for the girls, this was a high quality performance against a team we were much more sluggish against last week. The passing and control of the game was great to watch. All 15 can be proud of their performance today. First half: goals 2 from Sophie Dalton (1 pen) and 1 from Cara Moriarty. Second half: goals 2 from Faye Kelly and 1 from Leah Briody. Tougher opposition to come but the template for a higher level of football is there.
U16.4 Boys Cabinteely 1 Leixlip United 2.
Leixlip started strong, containing Cabinteely’s attacks and giving them plenty to think about defensively. Approximately 20 minutes in, Gabby Floroiu’s fast feet created just enough space, out side the 18 yard box, for him to send a crisp right foot curler beyond the keeper to give Leixlip a deserved lead. Cabinteely levelled not long after, taking advantage of a defensive mix up. Even exchanges after that till halftime. The boys stepped it up in the second half, driving forward at every opportunity, and were eventually rewarded with the goal of the game. Fantastic one touch interplay involving Tom Ryan, Fionn Egan and Cian Gilgunn, letting Cian drive powerfully forward and expertly finish into the bottom left corner. There were further opportunities for both teams, right to the final whistle, but Leixlip were not to be denied. Excellent overall team performance, arguably the best so far for this group of players. Many had a shout today but Kyle Hutton just about edged things for MOTM.
U12.5 Girls Leixlip United 1 Hartstown FC 3 (Cup Match).
Leixlip Utd U12.5 Girls put in a fantastic performance against a strong Hartstown FC side. The game started with high intensity, and Leixlip took the lead through a brilliant goal from Lucy Jordan. The team battled hard, but Hartstown found an equalizer just before half-time, leaving it 1-1 at the break. In the second half, Leixlip came out fighting, creating several chances but were unable to find the back of the net. Ciara Dempsey was outstanding in goal, making some incredible saves to keep the team in the game. However, Hartstown managed to score twice midway through the half, bringing the score to 3-1. Leixlip pushed forward in the final minutes, with Lucy Jordan, Amelya Quinn, Chloe McDonnell, and Klara Long all going close, but the opposition goalkeeper denied them each time. The final scoreline didn’t reflect the effort and performance of the team, who showed great determination and teamwork throughout. A fantastic effort from all the players well done, girls!
U18 Major Boys Tolka Rovers 1 Leixlip United 3.
In a must win game for our lads against 1 of the teams that are challenging us for the title we came out with an excellent win and a huge 3pts. Goals from Arthur Centaro x 2 and Luke Cowzer leaves us In the driving seat to win the 18s Major league. The 14 lads that played today where excellent. Tolka beat us early on in the league 4-0 so we knew how tough a game it would be. 4 league games left now and 12pts should be enough to get us over the line as Tolka still have 11 games left. Next up for our lads is the short trip to Lucan United next Sunday in the 1/4 finals of the Cup.
