U11 Boys Brendan Coyne Cup 1/4 Final Ashbourne 1 Leixlip United 3.
We progress to the semi final of the cup after a very tough game out in Ashbourne. Leixlip took the lead mid way through the first half when Ollie Dagg Moran's corner was turned into the Ashbourne net by the goalkeeper. The home side equalised 5 minutes later with a great strike into the top corner from 20 yards. We started the second half really strongly and went back in front when Bowe Kelly intercepted the defenders pass and fed Tyler Browne who finished into the bottom corner. Leixlip had some great chances to extend our lead but couldn't finish. Ashbourne pushed for an equaliser but we defended really well as a unit. We made the game safe with 2 minutes to go when Ollie Dagg Moran's free kick found the bottom corner. A brilliant performance from the whole squad who now have a semi final to look forward to.
U15 Major Boys Leixlip United 3 Broadford 4.
We went 1 down after 5 mins crazy mistake at back then to our credit scored a great goal sweeping move front to back and Daniel Bradley lobbed keeper then go 2-1 up before halftime Daniel Bradley power header from a corner. Second half 1st minute we concede again a mistake at the back let’s striker walk through 2-2. Again we score from a spilled free kick that Daniel Bradley pokes home the rebound for his hatrick. Yet again we gift them a goal in the box as we pass it straight to their striker for a 3rd time 3-3 and to top it off we go asleep with 10 minutes to go no pressure on ball in middle and a simple ball over the top no one deals with except their striker. 4-3 loss and we could have been out of sight. Hard one to take as they are a side we are contending with so we need to dust off and go again.
U13 Boys Gerry Murphy Cup 2nd round Mount Merrion 1 Leixlip United 2.
Great win for the lads after struggling for form since Christmas. Could have been 3 up inside 20 minutes but settled for 2-0 after a dominant first half with two excellent goals from Dylan Plunkett and MOTM Darragh Kineavy. Should have put the game to bed after an excellent second half but concentration let us down and Mount Merrion nicked one on the break to set up a messy last few minutes. The lads held their nerve and saw the game out for a well deserved win and a great confidence boost after a difficult few months.
U15.1 Boys Leixlip United 0 Castleknock Celtic 4.
Slow start allowed Castleknock get into a 2 goal lead after 10 minutes. We started to get up to speed and were a lot better for the rest of the half and went close with good chances for Steve McLoughlin, Liam O'Hagan and Stevie Owens but failed to score. Second half we huffed and puffed but conceded when we left a man unmarked from a corner and they got the 4th in with 5 left after an own goal. 2nd best today and got what we deserved.
U13 Major Boys Newbridge 3 Leixlip United 3.
Despite the early start we were on top from the first whistle. We got the breakthrough 10 minutes in when Daniel O'Shea put Tom Byrne away down the right, his cross found Alan Maly unmarked at the back post and he took one touch and finished well. We got a second 5 minutes later when Daniel Coburn played a superb pass between the Newbridge centre backs and Conal Boland ran on to it and finished brilliantly into the far corner. Newbridge got back in the game with a free kick and then equalised right on half time after we allowed them a free header from a corner. They took the lead straight after half time with a ball over the top and a good finish from the striker. We continued to push for an equaliser and were unlucky to see Ollie Newports effort come back off the crossbar and out to safety. We finally got our reward when Conal Boland was taken down in the box and he picked himself up and tucked away the penalty. Disappointing not to win the game ,but still a very good performance.
U17s Division 2 Boys Drumcondra 2 Leixlip United 4.
This was a huge improvement on last week's performance where the lads were bullied off the pitch. Leixlip were quick off the mark with two goals from James Monaghan within the opening 5 minutes. Monaghan used his strength well on both occasions to hold off defenders and coolly finish. The lads got a little complacent after that and gifted Drumcondra 2 goals to make it 2-2 at half time. Leixlip started brighter in the second half in what was a good contest. Both teams had chances, but Leixlip went back in front after Leon McDonnell scored a 30-yard screamer into the top corner. Drumcondra pressed for an equaliser, but Leixlip caught them on the break when James Gaynor beat the keeper with a neat finish from inside the box with 15 minutes left. The lads withstood late Drumcondra pressure to close out the game.
U11 Boys League Cup River Valley Rangers vs Leixlip United.
Great win for the lads in the cup quarter-final. Built on a really strong defensive performance, the lads were excellent from start to finish. In a very even first half we took the lead following a good passage of play finished with a goal from Dylan O'Murhcu. The second half was also a very tight affair with both teams having some good chances to score. Thankfully we grabbed a second with a great finish from Jack Farrell. Well done to all the lads for their great effort and teamwork. Onwards now to the semi-final. Squad : Luke Araujo, Rowan Padden-McCabe, Luca Browne, Gavin Dundon, Fiachra Feeney, Josh Riordan , Dylan O'Murchu, James Araujo, Jacob Dagg, Jack Farrell and Tadgh Fahy.
U17 Major Girls Leixlip United 3 Lakelands 1.
While we were strong at the back, Robyn McCaughey in particular, and kept possession decently across the pitch. Emma Murphy stamped authority on the game 20 minutes in when she drove at them and finished strongly in the far corner. Early in the second half Cara Moriarty spread the ball to the right and Lucy Morris raced on to it, winning a ball she wasn’t favourite for and a taking a nice goal. Lucy then set one up driving through the middle she played it out wide to Faye Kelly who cut in and sweetly knocked it in off the far post. Lakelands scored a peach of a consolation goal late, we had a couple of chance to clear the ball but they struck a nice shot which looped high over Danielle.
U16 Premier Boys Leixlip United 1 Cabinteely 3.
Following on from last week's performance we started slowly and to be honest never got up to speed. Despite that we went ahead when Jamie Flood rifled a shot from 20 yards into the roof of the net. Cabinteely hit back shortly after when their centre forward scored from close range after Tom Harrington had kept out two shots from inside the box. Before half time they added the second and early in the second half the third came from a header from a free kick. We never really troubled their keeper until near the end when he made a brilliant stop from Aaron McDonaghs free kick. Two poor performances in a row we will have to step up considerably next week in the SFAI Cup.
