U14-7 Boys Trinity 2 Leixlip United 1.
The boys travelled out to the league leaders Trinity Donaghmede. Our main focus was to compete. To give away nothing cheaply. To back each other up. Due to the players available we tinkered with the formation and went in with a 4-4-2 line up. The boys started the match very strongly both in and out of possession. It was an unfortunate momentary lapse in concentration however that led to the opening goal for Trinity on 5 minutes. We took the game to Trinity after that and it earned a fully deserved equaliser on 13 minutes. We pressed Trinity and won the ball on our left. The ball was played into Sam Harrington who fired a beautiful volley from outside the box which flew into the roof of the net. A real beauty. Again, we competed manfully however we were undone when the referee made an error in the 22nd minute awarding Trinity a corner when the ball clearly went straight out for what should have been a goal kick to Leixlip. This was compounded when the ball was crossed into our 6 yard box and their striker headed the ball home giving Will Corscadden no chance. We matched Trinity all the way and it was with great hope we went into the second half believing we could pull this back. Their manager after the match admitted that we deserved to get something out of this game and against all the odds we were only a refereeing error away from taking what would have been a well-earned point away from the league leaders.
U17.2 Boys Leixlip United 4 Drumcondra 2.
Third win in a row in a really good contest. Drumcondra went 1 nil up after a few minutes after a long range strike went in against the run of play. The lads didn't panic and James Gaynor equalised with his 5th goal in 4 games with a shot from outside the box into the top corner. Ben O'Reilly scored his second goal in two weeks before half time, creating the goal for himself through a crunching tackle on a Drumcondra defender and a neat finish. Leixlip turned off for a few minutes after the break to let Drumcondra equalise with a well taken finish. Lads grew back into the game after that. Sam Bacon scored the third with a header at the back post from a Gaynor corner. Leixlip put the game to bed with five minutes left after great work from Josh Byrne put Gaynor through on goal and he squared for Colm McCreanor to slot home. A really good game and another very strong squad performance.
U15.1 Boys Leixlip United 7 Howth Celtic 1.
An emphatic win to finish the first half of the season. Leixlip went ahead after 15 minutes when Zach Fitzpatrick played in Stevie Owens who combined with Brendan Carolan before slotting past the keeper. We had the ball in the net soon after when Aidan McConville fired in from 25 yards but the ref ruled it out for offside. We conceded the equaliser after failing to clear a corner. Leixlip got the second through Brendan Carolan who was a constant threat throughout. We were well on top after this and Stevie Owens scored after linking up with Brendan Carolan again. The 4th arrived quickly when the ball fell to Dara Neville outside the box and he fired it into the bottom corner to make it 4-1 at half time. Second half Leixlip kept the pressure on and Stevie Owens soon had the hat trick his performance deserved. This was quickly followed by a goal for Krystian Ivanov and the scoring was rounded off with goal from Liam O'Hagan. A very impressive performance from all the squad.
U15 Major Boys Leixlip United 5 St Malachys 2.
Leixlip started on the front foot but our decision making in the final third was poor. Finally after 20 minutes Daniel Bradley laid the ball off to Harry O’Connor who finished high into the net from 20 yards making it 1-0. We were racking up corners and possession but couldn’t make it count and as happens they had one plan to hit us over the top and with 15 minutes to go they did that when we let a ball bounce and didn’t recover defensively when their striker hit the bar and winger finished the rebound 1-1. We then had a panicky 5 mins but the lads regained composure as the introduction of Senan Moriarty on the right yielded joy immediately with him beating his man 3 times and winning corners that eventually Max Farnan’s left footed delivery found Daniel Bradley’s head for him to power home a header at the near post 2-1. After this we just strangled them and Dany Pop who was lethal in a 20 minute spell slipped the ball to Daniel Bradley inside the box and cleverly Dan poked it home to the corner from 12 yards out with his right foot 3-1. Then goal of the game and possibly our season as Dany Pop picked the ball up in midfield to the left and just drifted by 3 players leaving them all for dead before calmly slotting the ball to the bottom corner from 15 yards out 4-1. Finally Dany Pop turned provider again beating a man in midfield and playing a perfect through ball for Daniel Bradley to not break stride and slot the ball past the oncoming keeper with his left foot 5-1. They got a consolation from a ball into the box we should’ve cleared with literally the last kick of the game. I never give MOTM but today we had two Dany Pop changed the game with his skill and Daniel Bradley scored a perfect hat trick left foot right foot and head and all in 8 minutes so they are the two but as a squad we showed great battling and a never give up attitude.
