With only one fixture to report on this weekend, it seems like a good moment to update our members on future plans and aspirations for our club.

Following the refurbishment of our existing astro last year, we opened our second astro pitch with new floodlights in January. Both astros still require a final dressing which should happen this month or early next month, weather permitting. The contractor is also due to tidy up the area outside the new astro and around the grass training area.

The new astro has had a massive impact in terms of training requirements and playing home games on the weekends. Our next project will be a refurbishment of our three cages and possibly upgrading the lighting. We have also started the process of developing a new club house, possibly where the coffee shop is currently located. While this project is in the early stages,  it is a priority going forward.

Another objective is upgrading the lighting on the grass training area. Personally I would love to see a walking path built around this area; somewhere parents and guardians could use while their children are training. With construction of the greenway between Leixlip and Maynooth commencing shortly, a path on our grounds could provide a  start/finish point for people on their walks.

Leixlip Educate Together National School moved to its new home in Coláiste Chiaráin in February and we await news regarding the space we provided for the school.

We are now catering for over 50 teams and we expect that number to increase over the coming years. We have greatly improved our facilities and will continue to strive to improve them even more over the coming years. In addition to the projects mentioned above, we also plan on creating an indoor strength and conditioning area.

None of this is possible without the help and support of our sponsors and parents. However without our coaches and managers we just could not survive. We are always in need of new coaches and managers to help look after our teams. This club is driven on by its volunteers, Nobody is paid, in fact it most certainly costs our volunteers money to do what they do. We are not unique though, for example Barnhall RFC and the local GAA clubs are all in the same boat but it is a hugely satisfying and enjoyable experience for all who do it.

In conclusion we thank you all for your support and help in growing and improving our club.

Yours in sport,
Paul Martin, Chairman
