REMINDER - NO RUNNERS/SHOES ON ASTRO PITCHES

Football boots (see image above) are the only footwear allowed on the Astro pitches. The Astro development cost in the region of €650K and incorrect footwear will result in the pitches getting destroyed. Anyone entering the Astro pitches in the wrong footwear will be asked to come off. We are collecting a stock of spare boots in the clubhouse which members and visitors are welcome to use if available. (If anyone would like to donate old boots to this cause, please drop them into the club house/coffee shop).

Please respect any requests from coaches/managers or Leixlip United committee members to come off the pitch if you are wearing runners or shoes. We are conscious that many parents come on to the Astros to help move goals or equipment and appreciate the support, but even in these cases appropriate footwear must be worn. Please also keep an eye on younger children/spectators who may run on to the pitches in the incorrect footwear.

MATCH REPORTS

U13 girls Div 1 Leixlip 1-0 Rathcoole
A very tough game for the girls today in an unusual stop-start first half (due to an ambulance crossing the field to attend to a player at another match).
Chances were very few and far between two sides that battled hard for the hour.
Leixlip were rescued in the first half with a brilliant save by Jules Numan after Rathcoole found themselves one on one with our goalkeeper who stood up bravely to her.
The only goal of the game came via Sophie Murphy who finished brilliantly with her left foot after some great work and cross from the right by Annabelle Carty.
They all defended very well today, worked hard for each other and are becoming a hard team to break down.
Next round of the cup is the reward.

MGL U16A Leixlip 1 Bohs 1
Wishing the Bohs player well who stayed down after a seemingly innocuous incident. Never good to see an ambulance come to a game and it seems she was unwell before the game.

Football-wise we took the lead early in the second half when Grace Kelly was put through and finished excellently. Conceded a late equaliser from a headed corner.
So far so good in a very tough division.

U16s Major Leixlip 1-0 Cherry Orchard
What a performance and result from our lads, a great battling performance, starting well in the first half, we had four one-on-ones and couldn't convert them and we were thinking it's going to be one of those days, Cherry orchard are a very strong side in our league, who are on the hunt for the title. 0-0 at half time. We didn't have a great start to the second half but settled back into the game and we went 1-0 with great play from Omar and great goal by Lewis. It was backs against the wall as Cherry Orchard attacked and we were handling it well until we gave a peno away with five minutes left. Luckily for us they hit it wide and we battled the last few minutes to see out the win. Great result for us.

15M Ballyoulster Utd 0 Leixlip Utd 4
Always a difficult place to go for any Leixlip team but we managed all the noise very well today. We started bright enough and went close on a few occasions before a lovely near post header from Oisin Tighe put us in front. Despite dominating the proceedings we needed a brilliant stop from Conor Linnane to keep us in front at the break. The second half followed the same pattern except we started to finish off our chances. Aidan Doyle with two lovely finishes and an Aaron McDonagh corner which went all the way into the net gave us a good win against difficult opponent's. We have next week off due to a clash with some small competition but we will start preparing for our last 16 All Ireland Cup game on the 2nd March.

U14P Leixlip 1 Crumlin 6
We went from playing Kevin’s in the top spot to playing second place Crumlin this week with a decimated squad so knew it was going to be a tough day. Went 1 down after seven minutes. A simple ball over the top, not dealt with, then the ball crossed in for an easy finish. Second was a looping shot that went over keepers head and third was a cracker top bins from 25 yards and the fourth we should have dealt with. We asked the lads to win the second half and we were unlucky not to as we pressed really well and Daniel Bradley had a shot saved that Senan McAuley followed up and scored. We pressed again. And had two or three good chances but then a brainfart at the back gifted them a goal and five minutes before the end we were way too slack marking in the box to let a winger take it down and finish. Big shout out to Max & Senan from 2011 who helped us out and did not look out of place at all. Idle next week and Shels in the league cup the week after hopefully the break does us good to get back to full strength.

There were other good results for the under 10.1 and 10.3 girls, 10.5 boys and 15.6 boys. U18 P boys also won 4-0 away to Leicester Celtic.
